Abstract
"Heritage is a cultural product that is a necessity to the sustained economic and cultural success of communities in Vermont. With its picturesque beauty and putative "small town America" reputation, Vermont relies heavily on images of heritage not only for identity, but also for income through the tourism industry. This study explores the benefits and drawbacks of marketing an image of a community with the aim of creating a heritage-based tourism market, and explores ways in which the implementation of heritage tourism marketing strategies can affect the public spaces and social fabric of a community in positive and negative ways."
