Abstract
This paper explores the role of Derry City F.C. in the sectarian conflict of The Troubles
in Northern Ireland from 1970 to 1985. The experiences of Derry City as a soccer team were
deeply intertwined with the pervasive sectarianism of Northern Ireland; through its sporting
ventures, Derry City provided space to dream of a better future for Catholic nationalists in
Northern Ireland.
