Abstract
This paper examines the effect of high school athletic participation on education and labor market outcomes. Specifically, this papers aims to identify how athletic participation affects GPA, educational attainment and income. Using data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health (Add Health), OLS estimates were used to test the effect of high school athletic participation on the outcome variables. This paper uses propensity score matching to control for selection bias by generating a subsample of observations with similar characteristics. Supporting previous literature, this paper found significant impacts of athletic participation on GPA and educational attainment; however, there was no evidence that that high school athletics impacts income.
