Abstract:
In this paper the phenomena of New reality was researched as it affected foreign language learners of Russian. Electronic newspaper articles were analyzed for intertexts, word play, and foreign words, in order to give the foreign language learner a general understanding of the complexities in the Russian language as a consequence of New Reality. By identifying and decoding the sources of intertexts, comparing alternatives in word usage, and elaborating on Russian literary techniques in journalism, the foreign language learner is advised to be deliberate and methodical in understanding Russian newspapers. In analyzing articles from different sources, it was discovered that despite sharing common topics, language from newspapers can vary to a great degree. This paper has shown that acquiring a foreign language requires attention to intertexts, the understanding of how words relate to each other, and a writers style.
