This week on War News Radio:
First, Gary Mortensen’s 2007 film, This is War: Memories of Iraq, was critically acclaimed for focusing on the soldiers’ perspectives. Mortensen’s new documentary, Shepherds of Helmand, uses this same approach to tell the story of an Oregon National Guard unit deployed to Afghanistan in 2008. Alan Zhao and Jared Nolan have report.
Next, more than a fifth of veterans wounded Iraq and Afghanistan have traumatic brain injuries. Once they get home, their journey has only just started. Emily Hager spoke with two families about their experiences dealing with TBI. This piece first aired in August of 2009
