Abstract
This paper will examine the questions involved in constructing the syntactic portion of a computerized poetry generator. We will first discuss some of the philosophical issues involved in applying current syntactic theory to such a project. We will then examine issues in the implementation of such a project, both considerations internal to the syntax and considerations relative to the other portions of an electronic poet. Finally, we will describe a partial implementation and discuss its limitations and areas for further study.
